McDonald’s Malaysia ushers in the Chinese New Year this year with a gesture which goes beyond giving material gifts by spending meaningful moments with residents of selected homes.
Since January 11 this year, McDonald’s employees representing 267 restaurants have been visiting a total of 81 old folks’ home to bring cheer and happiness to the homes’ residents as they spread the Chinese New Year festive spirit. The campaign which was partly in collaboration with Astro also saw an overwhelming participation of volunteers from among members of the public.

McDonald’s Malaysia managing director and local operating partner, Azmir Jaafar, said McDonald’s believes that the personal attention by the volunteers and McDonald’s employee is the true meaning of Prosperity - it is about sharing joy, love, cheer, affection, family togetherness, friendship and peace. In other words, it is about who you have instead of about what you have.
“In the true spirit of Chinese New Year, prosperity need not solely mean material wealth as there are things which are invaluable and priceless. These include the joy and happiness that we experience in life such as when we spend quality time with our friends and family,” he said.
Azmir said the visit to the old folks’ homes in conjunction with Chinese New Year, is not just another annual affair but a mission aimed at instilling care and togetherness among its employees and the society in general.
“It is also one of McDonald’s ways of showing respect and appreciation to the elderly. The “True Meaning of Prosperity” campaign is in line with McDonald’s core value of giving back to the communities where it operates,” he added.

This is the second year McDonald’s has embarked on this initiative to bring cheer to the residents and help lift their spirit as we all usher the new lunar year. During the visit, McDonald’s employees and the volunteers spent time with the residents of the respective home chatting besides having meals together.
